GOOD NEWS! CONNER UPDATE #4!

HEY GUYS!!!!! SUCH GOOD NEWS!
(SHORT POST TODAY!!!)
Conner gets his shunt Friday morning! Then we could possibly get discharged to inpatient rehabilitation! Get out of the PICU! Whoooo whoooo!
We also got our name on the door 💚.

Let's talk- pilocytic astrocytoma.

To understand our diagnosis, that requires some changes in the way we think about certain words.

Benign tumor, meaning that it has stayed in one area and not spread to other areas.

Malignant, means a cancer that has spreads to other parts of the body very quickly.

Cancer, means an abnormal cluster of cells that should not be there that grow somewhat quickly and invade other cells.

Are cancer cells and tumor cells the same?
--Cancer cells are invasive.--

Because cancer cells ignore the body's signals to stop dividing, they start invading tissues nearby. If a tumor is benign (which Conner's is), it may push up against neighboring tissues, but won't invade it. However, a malignant tumor invades tissue and is capable of spreading throughout the body.-

We can't tell you how much we appreciate the support from everyone. It has been so encouraging to see how many people care about Conner. Keep praying. He still has a long road ahead of him.
